Battle of the Potomac XC Championships 2017 – Canceled

Updated: October 5, 2017

It is our regret to announce that the Battle of the Potomac XC Championships, affectionately called the BORDER WAR, has been canceled for this fall’s cross country season. The parent nonprofit of the event is the American Running Association (ARA). As of late June, the Board for ARA decided to move remaining assets to a Sports Medicine nonprofit closely aligned with ARA’s sports medicine group AMAA. This move followed the loss of the largest income source for ARA and AMAA which was Fundraiser Runners at the Boston Marathon. AMAA had been a fixture at the Boston Marathon for over 4 decades. Unfortunately the business of marathons evolve and the leadership changes. I hope that the “BORDER WAR” can return in some form in 2018. It must be note that the combination of the unique high quality Nike singlets and the fantastic Smokey Glen Farm chicken dinner was possible by a generous donation each year from Nike’s co-founder and retired Board Chairman Phil Knight. Entry fees covered most of the production costs.
